Modern agriculture is in dire need of ways to increase the yield of crops grown on unproductive soils, greenhouses, hydroponics. It was necessary to create a product (artificial soil), which will provide plants with water, fertilizers and pest control. The product in the production process should include in its composition water and named chemicals. It should also provide controlled release of water and chemicals into plant roots.
Currently, coconut fiber and porous minerals (e.g. basalt wool) are used for this purpose. Peat is used in small quantities. Coconut fiber is an imported product, its purchase depends on many external factors. In addition, coconut fiber does not provide the properties necessary for artificial soil. Mineral products have sanitary problems, and do not provide all the necessary properties.
The technology of our production of artificial soil by mechano-thermochemical treatment of old tire rubber was developed and tested in the laboratory. The product is a hydrophilic porous granule with a size of 5-10 mm. High porosity allows to introduce up to 5 kg of water and aqueous solutions of fertilizers into 1 kg of granules during production. Fertilizers that are insoluble in water can also be included in pellets at the production stage. Due to the introduction of special agents into the product, the granules are oxidized to carbon dioxide and water for 2-3 years and disappear from the soil. This allows you to regularly restore the fertile layer. In other words, the need for artificial soil does not decrease over the years.
For the production of artificial soil, standard equipment of the polymer industry is used. The estimated cost of production of the product in conditions of the industrial enterprise does not exceed 500 $ / t. the Cost of coconut fiber on the market is from 2,000 to 4,000 $/t. The Raw material base – waste tire rubber - is not limited.
To implement the project, it is necessary to build a pilot plant, produce 50-100 tons of artificial soil and conduct tests at various agricultural facilities. It is possible to purchase equipment, install it and produce artificial soil within 4-6 months, for testing at agricultural facilities it will take another 3 to 9 months. The total cost of these works is US$ 1 950 000 - 2 000 000
